This theme focused on several areas of
HIV/AIDS treatment, care and support. Some sessions
covered topics that had not been fully explored at other
conferences while others covered the emerging issues.
"Access and Development", the subtitle of
the theme, highlighted the dual needs of broadened access
to treatment and care for people living with HIV/AIDS,
and development and evaluation of new strategies and
treatment modalities. Although access to antiretroviral
therapy was a major focus of discussion, the program
was broadened include areas such as access to opportunistic
infection prophylaxis and home and community based care.
