The Melbourne Manifesto
A manifesto was prepared for the Sixth
ICAAP based on the position paper presented by AIDS
Society of Asia and the Pacific. This was published
in the first of the daily ICAAP Newspapers and
an invitation was extended to all interested parties
to form a working group, which refined the original
document to create this manifesto to represent the delegates
of the Sixth ICAAP. It was intended to proclaim a Melbourne
Manifesto to update and extend the Manila Manifesto
of the Fourth ICAAP.
Youth Declaration
"We value this opportunity to
ensure that the voices of young people are heard at
the Congress and urge the Congress, regional governments,
non-government organisations, HIV/AIDS activists and
the international community to endorse and act upon
the following recommendations:..."
Ministerial Statement
Ministers from the Asia Pacific region
met, together with experts and delegates attending the
Sixth ICAAP. It was the first time that such a broad
range of countries has come together at Ministerial
level specifically to discuss the impact of HIV/AIDS
on our region. That thirty-three countries are represented
demonstrates widespread recognition of the importance
of the issue, and real commitment to taking action in
response. The participants discussed national and regional
responses, looking to compare experiences and draw lessons
for the future, and agreed on a Ministerial Statement
reflecting their discussions.
