Dr Sandeman completed his Ph.D. at ANU in 1980 on an Australian Wool Corporation scholarship studying immunity in sheep to the liver fluke, Fasciola hepatica. Dr. Sandeman worked at Michigan State University on a CSIRO postdoctoral fellowship studying immunity to parasitic tape worms. He began work as a postdoctoral fellow at the School of Agriculture at La Trobe University in 1982. Dr. Sandeman was appointed Research Convenor for blowfly strike vaccines in 1987 by the Australian Wool Corporation. In 1988 he took up a position as Lecturer in the School of Agriculture, was appointed Senior Lecturer in 1990 and Reader/Associate Professor in 1996 and Head of the Department of Agricultural Sciences in 1998. His current research interests include the diagnosis and control of gastrointestinal nematodes and ectoparasites and the methods by which ectoparasites survive and grow on their hosts. He was President of the Australian Society for Parasitology in 1999/2000 and Vice-President 2000-2002. He has organised two conferences for the Australian Society for Parasitology and has twice served as the ASP webmaster redesigning the web pages on both occurrences. He currently holds the position of Deputy Dean of the Faculty of Science, Technology and Engineering and is the faculty representative on the various committees overseeing the construction of the Bioscience Research Centre.
