Microbiology
Bacterial virulence, bacterial mineral metabolism and factors that contribute to the presence and multiplication of pathogenic and spoilage organisms which affect agricultural industries. Microbiological research in the department is directed towards the elucidation of mechanisms or pathogenicity, colonisation, spoilage and resistance to anti-microbial agents.
Programs available:
- Toxins and colonisation factors produced by pathogenic strains of E. coli
- Bacterial iron metabolism
- Bacterial resistance to copper
- Vaccine development
- Sudden Infant Death Syndrome - is an infectious agent involved?
- Spoilage of milk and meat
