Manton at Tolmie
Manton at Tolmie is a large, traditional-style house, owned by La Trobe University and available for use by students and staff of La Trobe.
Approximately two hours drive from Melbourne, the house is an ideal location for clubs, societies and staff to hold retreats, symposiums, seminars or small conferences. It is situated on a heavily wooded forty-hectare property in sub-alpine Australian bush, also making it ideal for quiet weekends or restful holidays.
Accommodation
Manton at Tolmie sleeps twelve guests in three bedrooms.
Facilities include:
- Fully-equipped kitchen
- Large spacious dining and lounge area with an open fireplace
- Verandah on three sides of the house, to take in the views
- Wood-fired barbecue
- Telephone for emergencies to be used with a PhoneAway card
Guests need to provide food and all linen (for kitchen, bathroom and bedroom).
Location
Tolmie is located on a plateau at the head of the King Valley; around two hours drive from Melbourne (via Mansfield). There is a pub and a general store for supplies. The area affords magnificent views of the Victorian Alps, as well as access to Mountain Ash forest and areas noted for their native wildflowers and waterfalls. Bird and animal life is abundant. Kangaroos, wombats and echidnas can be seen. Activities include hiking, fishing, boating at Lake Eildon, skiing at nearby alpine resorts in winter, and visiting craft shops, wineries and restaurants.
