Howqua Lodge is a delightful four-bedroom cottage, owned by La Trobe University and available for La Trobe student and staff use. It is the ideal holiday accommodation site, perched on an embankment above the Howqua River flats.

Howqua Lodge is about an hour's drive from Mount Buller - a major Victorian ski resort. In winter, staying at the lodge is a cheap alternative to expensive accommodation on the Victorian snowfields, making it ideal for those on a budget.

Facilities include:

  • Car parking on site
  • Fully equipped kitchen
  • Barbecue
  • Drying room for ski gear
  • Direct river frontage and large balcony
  • Trout in river (fishing licence required)
  • Wood fire heater in living room for cosy gatherings
  • Telephone for emergencies to be used with a PhoneAway card

Guests need to provide food and all linen (for kitchen, bathroom and bedroom).

Location

Howqua River is around two and a half hours drive from La Trobe University, via Mansfield. It is situated in picturesque Australian bush on the banks of the Howqua River, which rises in the nearby Snowy Ranges in the Alpine National Park.

Howqua Lodge is an ideal base from which to explore some of Victoria's remote and rugged alpine wilderness, laced with well-known bush walks. Bird and animal life is abundant. Kangaroos, wombats and echidnas are regularly encountered on the property. If fishing appeals, the Howqua, Jaimison and Delatite Rivers are renowned for trout, while boats may be hired at nearby Lake Eildon. The area has several points of historic interest, including old mining settlements like Woods Point. You can even visit the A1 Gold Mine. Wineries, craft shops and restaurants are also located in the area.

Rental conditions

Please note that Howqua Lodge must be rented as a unit on a nightly basis.
