Graduation: Information

BACK

Conferring of Degrees, Diplomas and Certificates

A student is considered to have graduated when an award (degree) has been conferred by the University at a graduation ceremony (either attending or 'in absentia'). Testamurs (degree certificates) will not be issued until the award has been conferred.

Students who have completed their course and qualified for an award will have a graduation information pack and 'Conferring of an Award' application form forwarded by post. It is essential that students maintain a current address with the University in order to receive information promptly. Address and personal contact details can be maintained through student on-line or in person at your local student administration office.

Failure to return the 'Conferring of an Award' application form by the specified due date will result in the award being conferred 'in absentia'.

Students who have qualified for an award are required to complete the 'Conferring of an Award' application form in order to advise whether they:

(a) wish to attend a graduation ceremony and receive their testamur
(b) wish the award to be conferred 'in absentia'
(c) wish to defer to Honours
(d) wish to defer the conferring of the award to a graduation ceremony at a future date

Please note: An award may only be conferred ONCE. Students that graduate 'in absentia' will not be eligible to attend a graduation ceremony at a later date.

Students who have discontinued honours and now wish to graduate with their bachelor degree should contact the Graduations Unit to ensure that they are included on the next graduation ceremony round.

Students that have not responded to graduation information and wish to receive their testamur will need to contact the Graduations Unit to confirm their postal address.

Students who have debts to the University are not permitted to graduate. Students are advised to clear any outstanding debts as soon as possible.
