Switch off!
Switch off! is initiative of the new La Trobe University Sustainability Taskforce. You will notice these stickers on light switches around all campuses of the university, reminding us to turn lights off when they are not needed. If you notice switches without stickers, please see your local receptionist or contact Emma Yager.
WasteWise Action Plan
Produced and implemented a WasteWise Action Plan. This included improving office recycling procedures, developing recycling strageies for e-waste, mobile phones and toner cartridges as well as trialling composting of organic waste. Achieved State Government WasteWise accreditation at Bronze level in 2007 and Silver level in 2009.
New buildings
Environmentally Sustainable Design principles will be incorporated in all new La Trobe University buildings. These principles encourage:
- sites chosen to optimise solar heat gains
- double-glazed glass in windows exposed to direct sunlight
- solar-boosted hot water
- energy efficient T5 lighting or better where possible
- a minimum of 50% use of harvested water in toilets
- waterless urinals
- recycled materials
