Calling future leaders
Calling future leaders in the human dimensions of adaptation to climate change...
The Social, Economic and Institutional (SEI-) dimensions of climate adaptation network is part of the National Climate Change Adaptation Research Facility (NCCARF). One of the aims of the SEI-network is to build a community of future leaders who are well informed about the human dimensions of climate change adaptation, through the Adaptation College. The Adaptation College is an annual event, where 20 early career people from different sectors (civil society, government, research) come together to explore diverse social issues and places associated with climate change adaptation. The network will facilitate practical learning, but will also provide opportunities for the group to get to know and learn from each other in an interdisciplinary setting. The College cohort will remain the same for the four years, fostering a lasting network of future leaders in climate adaptation.
The Adaptation College cohort will attend the SEI-network workshop each year. The first workshop will be in Darwin, from November 25-27th 2009, and will focus on adaptation in Indigenous populations. In 2010 the workshop will be in Sydney and focussed on adaptive governance; in 2011 it will be in Canberra and focussed on legal and policy issues; and in 2012 it will be in Melbourne and focussed on economic issues. After taking part in the SEI-network workshops, Adaptation College participants will stay on for an additional two days for the Adaptation College event. The College will focus on the theme of each annual workshop.
