La Trobe is recognised for its research strengths at a global level. We are Australia's leading university in biochemistry and cell biology research, rated 'well above world standard' in these fields by the Excellence in Research for Australia initiative. La Trobe is also rated at or above world standard in research fields including:

World-class research centres
La Trobe's Research and Development Park is the largest wholly university-owned and managed network of technology parks in Australia, spanning the Bendigo and Albury-Wodonga campuses as well as the Bundoora campus. The Bundoora campus is currently being transformed with the construction of the $94 million La Trobe Institute of Molecular Science (LIMS) and the $288 million Centre for Agribiosciences:

Supporting La Trobe's research community is the e-Research office, which was the first Australian unit to establish a computerised visualisation laboratory that provides a visualisation wall and HD videoconferencing.

The Olga Tennison Autism Research Centre
Australia's first centre dedicated to researching Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD). The centre's Autism Specific Early Learning and Care Centre is the the first in Victoria to provide care and early intervention programs for children with an ASD as part of a regular childcare facility.
Mother and Child Health Research
This centre focuses its research on major public health issues for mothers and children, such as health services for pregnancy and birth, cross-cultural issues, and the social context of motherhood.
Centre for Sustainable Regional Communities
Established in 1998, the CSRC actively seeks to create public discussion on how regional and rural communities can become more environmentally sustainable.
Centre for Sport and Social impact
Through real-world research and work with both industry and government, the CSSI aims to change the future of sport management practices and policy.
