Role of committee members

Apart from Council and Academic Board, most of the membership categories on La Trobe's governance committees are appointed or designated according to the member's substantive position in the University. The membership categories have been designated by the establishing body to ensure that the committee has the right mix of skills and expertise to successfully carry out its functions as identified in the Terms of Reference.

To this end, the role of the members is not strictly a representative one, voicing the opinions of a particular constituency. The primary role is a collegial one and membership brings with it insights, specific talents and experiences of the constituent groups.

Whilst the responsibilities of members are identified elsewhere on this Induction Site, the role and responsibilities of members are of course intertwined with the Terms of Reference of the Committee.

All members of committees are required to act in the best interests of the University at all times and ensure that the committee acts collegially in its deliberations.
